It is anticipated that any TexasSEGP-eligible institution will choose its SEGP Connector based on geographic proximity or institutional affiliation.
It is critical that SEGP institutions contact their TexasSEGP Connector regarding technical requirements for making the connection. The technical requirements of the TexasSEGP Connectors may vary, but certain general principles will apply. It is important to remember that Internet2 will not replace the commodity Internet. Both are required, and this implies that each SEGP institution must be a part of an Internet Autonomous System (AS) which is dual-homed via BGP-peering to the commodity Internet and to Abilene. Additionally, the TexasSEGP Connectors may have different equipment and transport requirements.
Institutions wishing to use the UT-Austin SEGP connection service must be prepared to configure a BGP route exchange with their current commodity Internet provider and with the UT Austin Internet2/SEGP access network. Contact Wayne Wedemeyer for specifics. SEGP connections through UT Austin are available in the following cities: Arlington, Austin, Beaumont, Corpus Christi, Dallas, El Paso (via UT El Paso), Galveston, Harlingen, Houston, Midland, Odessa, San Antonio, and Tyler.
